A 13th Avenue co-naming ceremony in honor of the Swedish hero Raoul Wallenberg took place in Brooklyn on Sunday December 9th. Wallenberg saved around a hundred thousand Hungarian Jews during the Second World War. From now on, one portion of 13th Avenue between the 36th and 60th streets is co-named Wallenberg Way.

The ceremony took place in the intersections of 13th Avenue and 50 Street in Borough Park, Brooklyn, under the auspices of Councilmen David G. Greenfield andBrad Lander to keep Wallenberg s memory alive. The ceremony was attended by Greenfield andLander, Ezra Friedlander —who organized the creation of "The Raoul Wallenberg Centennial Celebration Commission, the Consul General of Hungary Karloy Dan and the Consul General of Sweden David E.R. Dangoor. Jeffrey Zell participated on behalf of The International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation (IRWF).

"This is a day of joy for New Yorkers and people of good will that pay tribute to the "Hero without a Grave". Thus, Brooklyn joins London, Berlin, Tel-Aviv, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires and many other cities around the globe in the centenary of Wallenberg s birth", said Baruch Tenembaum, founder of theIRWF.

The IRWF is a global-reach NGO, with offices in New York, Jerusalem, Berlin and Buenos Aires. The IRWF s main mission is to research, preserve and divulge the legacies ofRaoul Wallenberg and his likes, mainly through educational programs for the young generations.

This year, as the world commemorates Raoul Wallenberg s centennial of his birth, the IRWF has announced a US$ 500,000 reward to any person or entity which could provide credible and scientifically verifiable information regarding Raoul Wallenberg s fate and whereabouts. Raoul Wallenberg was last seen on January 17th, 1945, when he was arrested by the Soviet troops that liberated Budapest from the Nazis. Ever since, his destiny is shrouded in mystery.
