Shema Kolainu - Hear Our Voices

Shema Kolainu: Hear Our Voices is a school for children with autism located in Brooklyn.
Shema Kolainu - Hear Our Voices

Shema Kolainul is regulated and funded by the New York State Department of Education.  The funding is directed by the New York City Board of Education and the Office of the Comptroller.

For many years, the school was underfunded.  A cost screen was placed over the needs of each student, while the students' real needs were not recognized.  Thus the school was operating with a deficit, and was considering closing down.

The Friedlander Group accepted Shema Kolainu as a client and identified the issues that allowed for the underfunding.  We ran an aggressive public relations campaign to bring the school to the attention of the media and public officials.  We presented a merit-based argument to the Board of Regents and to the appropriate legislators. As a result, hundreds of thousands of dollars were paid to the school retroactively.  The school was saved and has since expanded into a multi-faceted organization.
