Politics made strange bedfellows last night at the Jane Hotel, where Manhattan-born starlet Scarlett Johansson hosted a fundraiser for Borough President Scott Stringer‘s 2013 mayoral campaign. In attendance were Assembly member Brian Kavanagh and City Councilwoman Letitia James wearing a stylish pink tweed coat that nearly matched the hotel lobby’s plush pink couches. Also in attendance: Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal, Brooklyn District Leader Lincoln Restler, and Community Board 1 Chair Julie Menin, along with RWDSU’s Ademola Oyefeso and PR man Ezra Friedlander. Stringer has a connection to the Johansson clan — the actress’s maternal grandmother Dorothy Sloan was a tenants’ rights advocate in the 1970s when the borough president first got into politics. At the event, Johansson told the assembled masses that Stringer was the “lesser known, less trendy candidate, but after tonight, that won’t be the case anymore.” Johansson told City Hall she intended to actively campaign on Stringer’s behalf before the 2013 elections. “I hope to do PSAs and other fundraisers,” she said. “My most important role is getting the community involved in voting for mayor. Most of my friends, most of the people our age, can no longer afford to live here in New York. We have to change that,” she said, amid the flashbulbs.
The Friedlander Group is assisting the campaign in outreach to the Jewish Communities.
